D-day dress for keeps

D-day dress for keeps

Marriages are made in heaven but planned by you and on this D-day you want everything to be perfect, from the venue to the music to food and most importantly your wedding trousseau, a prized possession for the bride and the groom on which one spends a lot of time and money. Now that the wedding day is over, you might not want to part with the perfect dress you wore on your big day, so in order to keep your wedding dress as fresh as the memories of your marriage just keeping the wedding dress in a box is not enough.

• Try to clean the dress soon after the wedding, else stains become difficult to remove.

• Seek professional help for cleaning and storing your dress which can
range from 500-3000, depending on its size, fabric and detailing.

• Ask the cleaner to use gentler solvents on gowns, lehengas, saris and heavily embroidered suits th
an on regular clothing as it may blacken the zari work on the fabric.

• See the dress before it is packed if all visible stains have been removed prior to storage.

• Shoulder pads, perspiration shields, and anything made of foam should be removed from the gown as this can ruin the material.

• Avoid packing your dress with plastic or metal buttons, pins or buckles as it may tear the cloth.

• Wedding dresses should be stuffed with clean, acid-free tissue between the folds to prevent wrinkles.

• Never hang your wedding trousseau. Store it under a bed. Extreme temperature changes can damage your dress. Do not stack your wedding dress in an air-tight box.

• Never keep camphor balls inside the storage box as the chemicals can destroy the fabric and leave yellow spots on the fabric.

• Keep monitoring and refolding to avoid permanent crease and avoid dying your dress.
Wedding dress deserves special attention. By cleaning and storing it properly, you will have a lasting and well-preserved memento that you can treasure forever.
